The heartbeat of justice

Why water and wealth define this war

We are witnessing a shift in warfare that should alarm every advocate for justice. The recent threats to target desalination plants infrastructure providing over 90 percent of the drinking water for millions of civilians move us past traditional conflict and into the realm of "Water Bankruptcy." The United Nations has warned that we have entered an era where water systems in many basins can no longer recover. In this fragile state, the deliberate destruction of water infrastructure is not a "strategic strike"; it is a death sentence for non-combatants. Because these nations have less than a week of water in reserve, the collapse of these plants would trigger a humanitarian catastrophe dehydration and disease within days.

The economic cost: Who really pays? As we witness the rapid escalation of "Operation Epic Fury" in Iran, we must look beyond the headlines. In just over 30 days since this conflict began on February 28, 2026, the shift in our global and domestic economy has been calculated and devastating.

The "Market Takeover" Strategy: The destruction of Iran’s B1 Bridge and the strikes on Kharg Island which handles 90 percent of Iran's oil exports are presented as security measures. However, the mechanical reality is a forced market takeover. By causing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the field has been cleared for favored industries while everyday families suffer.

The Winners: Defense giants like Lockheed Martin and RTX (Raytheon) are hitting 52-week highs following the announcement of a "quadrupling" of production for "Exquisite Class Weaponry."

The Losers: While energy titans see skyrocketing revenues, Ohio families are paying the price at the pump. Gas prices have surged 30 percent, hitting a national average of $4.08 per gallon and climbing. As diesel and heating oil costs triple, we are bracing for a "food and industrial shock" as shipping costs for our groceries explode.

Accountability after transparency: The path forward

We cannot afford to let "national security" be used as a smokescreen for the enrichment of a few. In our work, we emphasize that a right is meaningless if there is no Right to a Remedy. You cannot "remedy" the loss of a child to dehydration or a family’s slide into poverty due to engineered economic shocks. True security isn't bought by destroying another nation's heartbeat; it's built by protecting the constitutional and economic rights of people right here at home. We must demand accountability now, before the damage is irreparable.

Take action: From the Capitol to the ballot

History does not look kindly on those who use the survival of children as a bargaining chip. We invite you to join us in standing on the right side of history:

Join the May Day Strike: On May 1, 2026, we join the "May Day Strong" movement in a day of "No Work, No School, No Shopping." Local actions are being planned in Columbus and Reynoldsburg to demand a nation that puts "Workers Over Billionaires."

Protect Our Rights: We are currently collecting signatures for the Protecting Ohioans’ Constitutional Rights amendment. We are focused on the 2026 ballot to ensure that every Ohioan has a documented path to justice and a remedy when their rights are violated.

Stay Informed: Follow the work of the Heartbeat Movement Inc. as we continue to push for transparency and accountability at every level of government. Stay informed. Stay engaged.
